Proxy Server Settings in Google Chrome

If you are browsing internet from your work place or school, you might get it from a proxy server.Here is how you can change proxy server in Google chrome web browser.

1) Open Google Chrome web browser.

2) On the top right corner you will find wrench button, This is where you can customize and control Google chrome.Customize and control google chrome

3) Click that and now you will see a drop down menu, Select Google chrome Options from the list.

4) You will see an options window now, It has 3 different tabs Basics,Minor Tweaks and Under the hood.Select Under the hood

5) When you scroll down a little bit, you will find Change proxy settings button below Network options.On Click this, you can find an internet properties window.

7) You will be now taken to Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window.

8) Now keep/change your proxy server ip address and port number as show in the above picture

9)If you don’t know your proxy server ip address or port number, contact your network administrator.

Note: If you are installing Google chrome web browser, it has a beautiful option to import your settings from other web browsers.It even imports your proxy server settings.Incase you have not opted for it or you want to change the proxy server, then just follow the above steps.

Google Chrome gets Duplicate Tab and Full Screen Mode

Google chrome is no more newbie browser. Google Chrome is constantly increasing its market share, At the same time it is coming with new versions too.The latest version of chrome comes with a full screen option which most of the today’s browsers already have.However, It is available with only with Developer Channel of Google Chrome.The difference between beta and developer channel chrome is just the updated period.Developer Channel of Google Chrome is updated weekly where as beta chrome is done monthly.

In the regular version, it got an option to duplicate any given tab.This feature can be used to easily move over cookies and other session related content from one tab to another to duplicate a tab, right click on any of the tab you want to duplicate and click on the Duplicate Tab option

To enter full screen mode in Google chrome.

Press the F11 key on your keyboard and see what happens :) , The difference between full screen mode in Google  chrome and other browsers is the address bar.There is no address bar available in the full screen mode, so you will have to get out of full screen to type in another URL.

Note that If you are not a developer channel user, you will not see the new features in your Google Chrome.However, shifting to Developer Channel of Google Chrome is pretty simple.Complete the below steps.

  • Select the circle next to the Dev: The latest features and bugfixes.
  • Click on the Update button to save your choice.
  • Click on the Close button
  • In Google Chrome, click the wrench menu(Top right) and choose “About Google Chrome”.
  • If there are any latest update, click Update Now to install the current channel’s release.
  • Restart Google Chrome

Google Chrome will automatically update the browser to the latest version when future updates are released, to change back to a different channel(stable or beta), follow steps once again.

How to Change Default Web Browser

Most of the web browsers tend to hijack the default browser status after installation.But at times we prefer using the old web browser.Here comes the question “How do I change my default Web browser?”, Well there are two methods for doing it.The first is using the Windows feature ”Set Program Access and Defaults” (SPAD).This is available on Windows XP Service Pack 1 or 2, Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or 4 & Vista, The second one is by changing the “check default browser status” in the respective browsers. Let us start with the first method

Using Set Program Access and Defaults :-

This is accessible from the right pane of the start menu, Start > Set Program Access and defaults or from control panel, Start> control panel > add or remove programs , and Set Program Access and Defaults.

Here you select custom which is the most flexible of all, this allows us to choose the default applications for different works, a mixture of Microsoft and non-Microsoft products.

Then Press Ok, Now your default browser option is saved and the default browser for your system changes

Even though this is illustrated for changing the default browser options , You can extend it to others also, like choosing  your default e-mail program, media player, instant messaging program, and Java virtual machine.

The second method, by “check default browser status” in the respective browsers .

Some might  have previously turned off the default browser prompt, It is necessary to turn it on. You can do it by selecting the following options in internet explorer, Firefox, and Opera respectively

1.Internet Explorer – Click on Tools >> Internet Options >> Programs tab. Select the Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default browser check box.

2.Firefox – Click on Tools >> Options >>General. Select the Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser when starting check box.

3.Opera – Click on Tools >> Preferences >> Default Application. Select the Check if Opera is default browser on startup check box.

Then restart the browser and select it as the default browser when prompted. To avoid the repeated message prompts from other browsers, uncheck the same option in others.
