Most of us are curious to know the size of ‘File’ before downloading it from websites. It can help us in determining genuineness of the file or estimating the bandwidth consumption. Sadly, by default Firefox doesn’t provide this information.

The add-on shows the file size in open with dialog box

However ‘Show file size’ extension adds up this feature to the Firefox browser and displays file size data in the open with dialog box. This is a very light weight add-on which is developed specifically to get the file size data. Users can decide whether or not to display round off value of the file size. This can be done through the settings once the add-on is installed.

Knowing the file size is important in many situations. As extremely light weight add-on (4kb), ‘Show file size’ add-on does the job.

Opera Browser loads webpages faster in Fast Mode settings, It uses cache to open the requested pages. Change the settings of your opera browser to open web pages in balzing speed
Post from:

How to Speed up History Navigation in Opera Browser

All browsers come with history option which makes it easier to access the web pages instead of re-opening them manually. Opera by default does this in automatic mode, means the browser decides whether to load from its cache or web server. Loading from cache means obviously the page loads faster as it is stored locally. It will be useful for users with slow internet connection. So how opera does this?

Whenever a user tries to load a previously accessed page, opera first attempts to find what type of webpage it is, Is the page a static webpage? Does it rely on scripts to display the information? Based on these findings it decides from where it should the webpage. However, some users might want to load the webpage from cache always. It speeds up the display of the webpage and it was a default setting of opera version 8 and earlier.

If you wish to do so, just enter opera:config#UserPrefs|HistoryNavigationMode in the address bar of your opera browser, and change the value from 1 to 3.

Automatic Mode: Opera browser decides whether to load the page from its local cache or retrieve the page from the web server

Compatible Mode: The webpage is always loaded from the web server.

Fast Mode: The webpage is always loaded from the local browser cache.

Now scroll down and save the settings. That’s it, your pages from history are loaded in blazing speed from now.

Note: If a webpage heavily relies on scripts to display the information, you might see a disrupted webpage. Just press the reload button in such cases.

Firesay is an interesting add-on for Mozilla Firefox. It enables users to talk to the web browser. This speech recognition add-on can change the way we browse internet. Imagine any ordinary browser task being done talking to web browser, like web search, browsing social network sites. Firesay let user’s to do so. Install Firesay add-on and try it today.

The add-on is still in beta, you might experience some bugs. Firesay add-on work only in windows. Once Installed, the developers recommend users to train the speech recommendation in windows control panel. After training, you can test voice control in Mozilla Firefox. Firesay can save a lot of time through voice browsing.

Currently, you can:-

Say your search queries(Eg: Search google ‘Technology’ )

Say which sites you want to visit.(Eg: Go to Facebook ; only limited sites are supported as of now.)

Say what TV shows you want to watch on Hulu.(Eg: Watch the ‘Office’, to watch Office Tv show on Hulu.)Close the active tab (Eg: Close tab)

Open, Launch ( Same as ‘Go to’)

We can enable/disable Firesay with a click. It accepts commands only when the browser window is active. It would be great if the developers add functions like “Scroll Down” “Save Web Page” “Next Tab”and other daily browser tasks we do.

There are many challenges, and more features to be added, long way to go, but Firesay might soon become a must have add-on for your Firefox.

Firesay can be downloaded from the Mozilla Add-ons Repository.

Soon we are going to have a major update of Mozilla Firefox. Recently Mozilla release beta version two of the popular web browser. The visual experience with Firefox 4 is going to be great with polished look. hidden menu bar and a revamped add-ons section. Most of us face a problem with every major release of Mozilla Firefox. That is compatibility of old add-ons with the newer version of Firefox. So some of our existing add-ons might not work with Firefox version 4 since they are written for previous versions of Firefox browser. The developers of add-ons takes time to update them to the newer version. So, if you don’t want to wait for the updates, Here are some ways to make your old add-ons work with newer version.

1 ) Install Compatibility Reporter add-on developed by Mozilla. It is created to test and report the compatibility of add-ons with the various versions of Mozilla Firefox. This add-on automatically configures your browser to install and use add-ons which are incompatible with your latest version of Firefox

2) Type about:config in your Firefox address bar and agree the warning message. Now, right-click inside the browser and choose New –> Boolean, type the preference name as xtensions.checkCompatibility.4.0b and set it to False. This way by replacing 4.0b by future versions, you can make add-ons compatible in future versions too.(more about it at mozillaZine entry)

3) Edit the Firefox add-on file. Download the add-on file to your computer and unzip/extract it ( double-click the .xpi file and open it with winzip/winrar application to unzip ) and edit the install.rdf file. Change the value of em:maxVersion to 4.0.* , Now compress it folder and change the extension of the compressed file to .xpi, then drag and drop the file in your browser to install the add-on. If you have anything to say please use the comment form.

As a result one must wait up to a week to try the latest features of chromium. There is a manual option to install the latest version. For those who don’t want it to be a manual process, an unofficial chromium updater is available. Its is a windows application that makes chromium updates easy(yes its automatic, so you don’t need to care for the updates anymore). You can change the update interval, switch to snapshot channel, where you find chromium builds that didn’t pass all the tests. use the built-in Flash and PDF plug-ins from your existing Chrome installation.

Having said that, here is a word of caution: Chromium are likely to be buggy than Google chrome. If you are very much enthusiastic to try new features first, then go for it, else safer option is to install the early access release channels for Google Chrome, which include support for auto-update.

Google Chrome Bundled with RealPlayer

If you try to install real media player now, you’ll notice that the setup downloads Google Chrome. Its default is set to install Google chrome.Real player seems to be the first third party application promoting Google chrome.Google replaced Firefox browser in their recommended software pack.Google chrome even installs with the latest downloads of Google earth software.

Although this is a common practice used by many, It is slightly unusual for the search giant to play these kind of tricks.

Google chrome is no more newbie browser. Google Chrome is constantly increasing its market share, At the same time it is coming with new versions too.The latest version of chrome comes with a full screen option which most of the today’s browsers already have. However, It is available with only with Developer Channel of Google Chrome. The difference between beta and developer channel chrome is just the updated period.Developer Channel of Google Chrome is updated weekly where as beta chrome is done monthly.

In the regular version, it got an option to duplicate any given tab. This feature can be used to easily move over cookies and other session related content from one tab to another to duplicate a tab, right click on any of the tab you want to duplicate and click on the Duplicate Tab option

To enter full screen mode in Google chrome.

Press the F11 key on your keyboard and see what happens :) , The difference between full screen mode in Google chrome and other browsers is the address bar. There is no address bar available in the full screen mode, so you will have to get out of full screen to type in another URL.

Note that If you are not a developer channel user, you will not see the new features in your Google Chrome. However, shifting to Developer Channel of Google Chrome is pretty simple.Complete the below steps.

Download the Google Chrome Channel Changer.

Run the file.

Select the circle next to the Dev: The latest features and bugfixes.

Click on the Update button to save your choice.

Click on the Close button

In Google Chrome, click the wrench menu(Top right) and choose “About Google Chrome”.

If there are any latest update, click Update Now to install the current channel’s release.

Restart Google Chrome

Google Chrome will automatically update the browser to the latest version when future updates are released, to change back to a different channel(stable or beta), follow steps once again.
