(Only for Gmail Users)

If you are curious to know the details of stranger who mailed you, probably you should try Rapportive. It comes as Firefox/Google Chrome/Safari add-on.

What does Rapportive do ?

It replaces the right side text advertisements with the details of person who mailed you. So what information will it provide ?

A Profile Photo – It gets from Gravatar

Present Job, Position, Employment information from LinkedIn

SocialMedia profile urls that match the email ID

3 recent Twitter updates if sender has twitter account.

One can even add personal notes under these details. If you want to know how your profile details look like to other Rapportive users, click on the myprofile link from the sidebar(bottom) or just send an email to yourself and check it out.

The downside

If you created a lot of social media profiles with weird names or the information you provided is no longer truth, etc. Then, the other Rapportive users can easily get this. Sometimes this can be embarrassing.

It will be good if Rapportive allows us to edit our profile information.(#1 users requested feature for Rapportive)

What happens when you delete or archive an email in your Gmail Inbox ? Gmail goes back to your inbox by default. This is not effective when you are reading and archiving/deleting multiple emails. Gmail labs now features Auto-Advance which makes the process more effective and interesting. It automatically advances to the next email in your inbox when you perform archive/delete operation without going back and forth between Inbox.

How to Enable Auto-Advance feature ?

Login to your Gmail account. Click on the settings link( check top right corner).

Then choose the labs tab, scroll down to Auto Advance and click on the enable radio button. Now scroll down and click ‘Save Changes’ button. The browser will reload your inbox.

Now again go to the settings tabs, Under ‘General Tab’, you can find Auto Advance with options. You can configure it to go to next (newer) or previous (older) conversation, or go back to the thread list after the actions. Select your choice.

That’s it, you are more productive now. From next time, when you delete/archive an email. You will be navigated to the next email.

Google finally made easy to keep images while sending an email.Till now a HTML work-around was used to do the job. Google today rolled out a new feature called inserting images. The new feature called ‘Inserting Images’ in Gmail labs that lets you add images in message body. However, this is still in labs only.To enable this feature go to Settings > Gmail Labs and enable it from there. Once enabled, you will find an Insert Image option while composing a message as shown in the screenshot below.(Make sure you’re in rich formatting mode, or it won’t show up)

After Clicking Insert Image option, It will ask whether to add an image from computer or a web URL.Just give the location of the image.Once your image is uploaded, you can resize the image and position it by dragging it across your email.Since this is a labs edition feature, it is not enabled by default, you have to manually enable it by going to Gmail labs.

Note:

To protect you from spammers, Gmail doesn’t show URL-based images in messages by default. So if you are sending mail to other Gmail users, they will still have to click “Display images below” or “Always display images from …” to see images you embed.

Gmail has rolled out a new feature that will please many Indian Gmail users. Now Gmail supports five Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

What it means ?

Well, you can send email in these 5 Indic languages from Gmail account. All Gmail account holders from India will have this feature turned ON by default. Other users can manually turn this feature ON from settings > Language.

This is not traditional machine language translation. Where you can translate into Hindi after writing in English. If you want to write something in Hindi make sure you know Hindi language. For example type Namaste as in English and hit spacebar – with Hindi option selected you will see नमस्ते ( Namaste written in Hindi language). Similarly, Namaskaram in Telugu and so on for other words.

Another great move by Google.Allowing to email in native language will definitely help in connecting more people.what do you say ?
